Coronavirus Update – Fixtures Suspended (17th March)

with No Comments

To all members,

We are sure you have been following the latest developments and updates from the government in regard to COVID19 – this was then followed up last night with advice from the FA that all grassroots football activities should be postponed with immediate effect until further notice – the FA update was also clear to point out that this included club/team training sessions.

We are aware that some clubs are already taking the relevant steps as advised and as a League we will also follow the same advice and postpone all future games and Cup matches until we see further updates from the relevant authorities.

Clearly at this time all of our energies need to be focused on those that are around us to ensure that people are safe and take the necessary steps if they display any of the recognised symptoms and help all of us get through a period that is a first for most ,if not all of us.

Football can and should take a back seat for now and our love for football should now be directed to families and those close to us.

As a League we will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as and when they can offer clearer advice specific to football.

We wish all clubs, coaches, referees, players and spectators well and lets do all we can to get through these uncertain times.

Stay Safe – Love Football – Love Life.

Dear all,

Following the announcements earlier today from The Football Association, the SPL League Committee have made the decision to postpone all SPL fixtures until further notice – this includes all League and Cup games.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update accordingly but at this point the health and safety of all connected with clubs and teams has to take priority.

We accept there will be differing views but feel this is the right decision based on the earlier announcements – we will start the process to look at how, when and if the season can be rescheduled to bring it to a close. We haven’t faced this previously so you will need to give the League volunteers time to see what is possible.

As we know more we will communicate further.

Andy Kelly
League Chairman

(Please remember, the league is run by volunteers who are currently at work. It is not possible for the volunteers to talk and send an update as soon as UEFA, The Football Association, the Premier League or Surrey FA provide their guidance).
